Ford have announced that enhancements are being undertaken on their popular Ford Fiesta series for the 2011 model, including an all-new six-speed dual-clutch PowerShift automatic transmission and a diesel power train.
The Ford Fiesta hatchback is set to be even more popular when Car of the Year winner, Ford, put their 2011 models on sale from 1st November, giving avid Ford Fiesta fans and small-car buyers the chance for better value for money, choice, performance and style.
The first big addition to the new 2011 model is the brand new dual-clutch PowerShift automatic six-speed transmission. The PowerShift embodies two transmissions working side by side, each with its own dedicated clutch unit, which allows the gears to be prepared and pre-selected while in motion and at full power, giving the driver a smoother driving experience and less torque interruption. This transmission will become available with the standard-fitment 1.6L petrol engine which delivers 89kw and 151nm of torque and uses 6.1L per 100km with manual petro derivatives.
The second big addition is the expansion of diesel power train after the recent announcement of the ECOnetic model. The ECOnetic will be the most fuel efficient for consumption at 3.7L per 100km, but the diesel engine has an impressive consumption rate of 4.4L per 100km while boasting a torque-rich 200nm five-speed manual transmission engine.
Some other new features of the 2011 Ford Fiesta models include new safety measures such as seven airbags, a new sports suspension system combining specially tuned front struts, damper stabiliser bars and bushings and new sports front seats. Driver and passenger beltminders have been added, along with storage under the front passenger seat and a six speaker sound system.
